Communication Officer POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Job Title: Communication Officer
Reports to: Program Coordinator
About the role:
The purpose of the Media and Communications Officer role is to ensure that V4Y’s communications are effective, targeted and credible. The position will develop and implement strategies to raise V4Y’s media profile, as well as the profile of issues related to ending unemployment issues.
Communication Officer Job descriptions:
· Ensure all communication policies, plans and documents reflect the need to establish a work environment that is free from all forms of discrimination and harassment, that equal opportunity is applied to all staff under supervision and that the principles of cultural diversity are applied in responding to the work of the organization or the needs of individuals.
· Develop, Manage and maintain media relations and maximize media opportunities.
· Develop and Distribute internal publications such as newsletters, brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, magazines, case studies, speeches, releases, email announcements, planned publications, on-line, video, articles, special projects photographs, films and multimedia programs.
· Responsible for organization’s communication with different target audiences, including beneficiaries, Volunteers, journalists, investors, Donors, suppliers and the community.
· To advise other employees and directors on communication tasks and use written and verbal skills to create a wide range of product and corporate communication materials.
· Responsible for development and delivery of communication strategies for events, forums and policy submissions.
· To build, manage and maintain a positive reputation of Organization by communicating effectively with target audience.
· Plan and undertake communications duties to contribute to the Organization's media projects and tasks through the electronic and print media.
· Implement communications, marketing, advertising and publishing strategies, which promote the key policies and programs of the organization.
· Plan, write, edit and publish a variety of communications and other documents, which present a positive image of the organization to the general public.
· Provide advice to internal clients by analyzing their specific communication needs, and assisting in the planning, development and implementation of creative strategies as required.
· Undertake specific communications tasks, including speech writing, media release preparation and distribution, promotional launches, displays and other special Event.
· Assist in the review and development of systems and procedures that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team and provide a quality service to beneficiaries.
· Planning, developing and implementing P.R strategies;
· Liaising with colleagues and key spokespeople;
· Liaising with and answering enquiries from media, individuals and other organizations, often via telephone, letter and email;
· Maintaining and updating information on the organization’s website and social media; and engaging with young people on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook;
· Sourcing and managing speaking and sponsorship opportunities;
· Fostering community relations through events such as open days and through involvement in community initiatives;
· Get organization featured on Magazines, newspapers, radio, TV, or the Internet.
· Determines communications strategy and execute programs to deliver communications objectives throughout the organization.
· Beneficiary selection and socio-economic assessment;
· Field work;
· Monitoring project components with the special focus on supported income generating activities;
· Project activity reporting and documenting.
· Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed
· Any other duties assign by PC or ED.
Skills needed:
· Excellent communication, interpersonal and Creative writing skills;
· Competent in English and Swahili Language.
· Drive, competence, flexibility and a willingness to learn;
· Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask;
· Ability to cope with pressure;
· Creativity, imagination, Marketing, presentation and initiative;
· Good teamwork, analytical and problem-solving skills;
· Business awareness and a good knowledge of current affairs.
· High Computer Literacy.
Experience: At least one year experience on the required field.
